Locally Commissioned Services (LCS) – Removal of earwax, Deep Vein Thrombosis, ECG services – are changing in the NHS

What has taken place?

NHS Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group have reviewed the LCS provided in general practice, but which do not form part of the General Medical Services contract.

Some of these services have either been unfunded or inadequately funded.

A number of services have been identified that should stop being provided by general practice or delivered in a different way.

Why has this decision been taken?

  • The service represents poor value for money.
  • There is insufficient clinical need/demand to warrant the number of providers.
  • The service model is out of date and has led to duplication.
  • The service is no longer a clinical priority.
  • To make best use of public money while ensuring NHS services can provide the care needed to the people of Norfolk

How will these services be delivered?

Patients will access the above services, but in some cases will need to go to a different location.

Removal of ear wax

GP’s will no longer be commissioned to provide this service.

DVT

GP’s will no longer provide DVT assessment. Patients will receive appropriate treatment from their acute hospital trust.

24hr ECG Services

Historically GPs were commissioned to provide 24hr ECGs, a test often repeated in hospitals. In future patients will receive care from their local acute hospital trust.

When will this take effect?

From the 1st of April 2022.

However, some good news for Aldborough patients.

Although these services will be unfunded your Surgery has decided that it will continue to provide these services for its patients in the same way as it has in the past.
